Stress – teeth grinding (bruxism)

Our teeth accompany us optimally throughout our lives, stress phases included. But if stress becomes a permanent condition, it leads to muscular tension. If the tense muscles cause teeth grinding over a longer period of time, the teeth are worn down much more than nature intended. Also, the risk of pain in the area of the masticatory muscles and temporomandibular joints increases. Once such a condition is established, it is difficult to disappear.

What can we do about it?

Today’s gold standard in the treatment of bruxism is the so-called Michigan splint. This is a custom-made splint for the patient that is worn at night. It provides muscular relaxation and protects the teeth from overload.

It makes sense to evaluate the stress triggers at the same time and treat them if necessary. Your dentist will be happy to support you!
